VOLUNTEER AT THE FESTIVAL!

Volunteering at the McHenry Highland Festival has become an annual tradition for many people in the Garrett County-Deep Creek Lake area. The Festival introduces more than 1500 visitors to the traditions of the Celtic lands—from the music, crafts, food, and dance to demonstrations and exhibits and non-profit booths that are designed to teach people about our Celtic heritage.

Volunteers are a vital part of this effort . As our Festival expands, so does our need for volunteers. We encourage our new and old/full-time and weekend residents to consider helping to preserve this tradition by volunteering a few hours to make this year’s Festival a success.

We also welcome corporate volunteer teams. Garrett County has a proud tradition of business sponsorship and participation in our local events. It’s a fun day out and a great team-building opportunity. Contact us for more information.

Volunteer Benefits

  • Free Admission to the Saturday Festival: Enjoy all that the Festival has to offer before or after your shift!
  • Identifying lanyard and badges: Each volunteer will receive a custom printed ID badge and lanyard for use during the Festival.
  • Service Learning: Volunteering at the Festival can help local high school students satisfy their service-learning requirements.

Volunteer Opportunities

In the Weeks Before the Festival

  • Work Crews: Work alongside Festival committee members as we
prepare the grounds, set up tents and stages and sound
    systems. We also knock down
everything on the Sunday following the festival.
  • Posters: Distribute publicity posters and Festival
brochures, during the weeks leading up to
    the Festival. Libraries, recreation departments,
government offices, any community bulletin boards,
as well as businesses and workplaces are great
locations to inform people about the Festival.
  • Transportation : Run errands or help with
pick-ups and deliveries.  Pickup trucks are
    especially useful during setup.

The Day of the Festival

Shifts are flexible but we do ask that volunteers
commit to a minimum 3-hour shift… although
more time is certainly appreciated!

  • Ticket Booths: Give a great first
impression to Festival goers as you sell
    tickets and hand out programs.
  • Parking: Help local Boy Scouts or area youth to
direct traffic in the parking area on the Festival day.
  • Animals and Livestock Events: Assist our committee members
with the Celtic dog parade and Pat and Chat event.
  • Runners: Work side-by-side with a board or committee member and assist with
    coordination of activities.
